Closing the book on January with a calm, mild Wednesday. Starting out a bit chilly in the morning with temperatures in the 30s, the sun comes up and goes to work warming us up.
Highs across the state soar well above average, into the middle 60s with a gentle south breeze. Another stellar day to get outside and soak up some sun!

Temperatures drop down to the 30s by tomorrow morning.
Winds increase a bit tomorrow, and that will help to give temperatures another small boost. Some spots may make a run toward 70 degrees! Not the sort of warmth we expect to start February!
This warm and sunny spell will come to an end as the work week does, with slightly cooler temperatures on Friday amid an increase in cloud cover. A strong storm system will be approaching from the west, and this is setting us up for a lot of rain over the weekend.
Surface low pressure develops in eastern Colorado late Friday and precipitation begins as this low draws moisture up from the south. Friday night into Saturday morning looks wet for much of Kansas.
The low takes a somewhat unusual track, sliding southeast through the day Saturday into the panhandles and moving toward the Red River valley. As this happens, we stay in a favorable position for rainfall to continue through Sunday. A few snowflakes may try to mix in for far western Kansas, but temperatures stay warm enough to keep it as all rain for most.
Rainfall could be quite substantial for many, with widespread totals of 1 to 2 inches.
After this system moves out, we stay a little cooler but still near or above average into next week.
