Storm Track 3 Forecast: Another foggy night, rain chances late this week

25 January 2024

Gray skies linger for the Sunflower State. Mist, drizzle, and fog will be possible through tomorrow morning.

With so much moisture in our atmosphere, dense fog will be likely once again into Thursday morning. Dense Fog Advisories are in place through noon tomorrow. Visibility will be poor, so please ensure you have your headlights on and take your time on the roads.

Temperatures will have little changes overnight. The thick cloud cover overhead will act like a blanket, trapping the heat near the surface and keeping lows in the 20s and 30s.

Scattered showers will move across central Kanas tonight, bringing light rain to the region. Showers will wrap up before 9 AM tomorrow.

Southerly winds will be hard at work tomorrow, bumping temperatures up a few more degrees by the afternoon. Highs in the 40s and 50s can be expected across the state.

Our next chance for moisture arrives late Thursday into Friday, pushing temperatures down slightly, but the warming trend continues through the weekend. Friday will feature showers throughout the region. Rain will begin in western Kansas during the morning and track east through the day.

With temperatures hovering right at the freezing mark for western Kansas, we could either see cold rain or wet snow as temperatures drop. Central Kansas will primarily see rainfall as temperatures stay above 32 degrees.

We will continue to monitor temperatures and track this system closely as we approach the end of the week. Rainfall will bring moisture to the region, with some areas receiving a healthy drenching. The highest rainfall amounts are expected across southeast Kansas.

Showers will linger for central and eastern Kansas through Friday night, with some snow trying to mix in before moisture exits the state.

Our weather pattern shifts as we enter the weekend. Temperatures will reach well above the seasonal norm by the end of the weekend, with highs in the 40s and 50s as a ridge of high-pressure inches closer to the Plains.

But the rollercoaster does not stop there, we continue to climb until temperatures are flirting with the 60s by the last few days of January. High pressure will remain in control through the start of February.
