Waking up to a chilly morning this St. Patrick’s Day. A weak cold front this morning is advancing across Kansas, and this will help to make today feel a little cooler than yesterday. Some clouds in the morning clear out and we spend most of the day with sunshine and north breezes.
Tonight will be cold with lows dropping to the 20s under clear skies.
Cooling a bit more for Monday, with highs mainly in the 50s to start the coming week.
Southerly winds take over by Tuesday, and this quickly boosts temperatures back well above normal.
The pattern begins to turn unsettled by midweek as an area of low pressure aloft slides past. This will bring some scattered showers and a few thunderstorms especially to southern Kansas Wednesday and Thursday. One or two storms may be on the strong side, but severe potential looks fairly limited.
Another, more powerful system is taking shape in about a week’s time. Late next weekend and early the following week may see more chances of precipitation. Depending how much cold air the system brings, locations farther north and west may see a chance of wintry weather, with showers and storms farther south and east.
