22 February 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — For six years in a row, the KSN Storm Track 3 team led by Chief Meteorologist Lisa Teachman has been certified as the most accurate forecast in Wichita TV and our surrounding viewing area.

“We have a dedicated team of meteorologists focused on getting the forecast right around the clock.  I am incredibly proud of this hard-working crew,” said Chief Meteorologist Lisa Teachman.

“The KSN Storm Track 3 meteorologists have proven year after year that they are the ones to trust when you need to know how to keep your family safe in severe weather,” said Rachel Schrag Sommerfeld, KSN News Director. “We are proud to have earned another year of distinction from WeatheRate.”

WeatheRate is an independent company that analyzes forecasts across the country. Every day, its analysts carefully examine forecasts in the Wichita television market. They not only study KSN Storm Track 3’s forecasts, but those of the other meteorologists in the area.

The experts at WeatheRate measure how accurate the forecasts are to what happened, including high and low temperatures, cloud cover, severe storm hazards, rain, snow, strong winds, and dense fog.

Analysts also rate the timing of the predicted weather conditions each day and for four days in the future.

Based on what WeatheRate learns, the company scores the forecasts. It adds points every time the forecast is different from what happened. Lower scores indicate that the forecast is more accurate.

This past year, KSN Storm Track 3’s score was the lowest, marking the highest accuracy in Wichita and our viewing area. It is the sixth year for this honor.
