Stay ahead of severe weather by becoming a Kansas Storm Spotter

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The National Weather Service (NWS) is hosting multiple Storm Spotter training courses across Kansas to help people get prepped for severe weather this year.

People have the opportunity to attend Storm Spotter classes either in-person or online in the coming weeks to help locals learn how to prepare and respond to severe weather. Each class is held in the evening hours and last around 90 minutes.

“Spotters provide critical information during severe weather events that aid in warning operations at the National Weather Service. If you are interested in helping out your community, or are simply interested in learning more about severe weather, consider attending one of our classes!”

Each course is led by a NWS meteorologist who will teach attendees about thunderstorm development and structure and safety during thunderstorms. People will also learn the basics on how to report storm information.
