TOPEKA (KSNT) – Some state lawmakers took a break from the session today to remember their past and recognize local government.
April is Kansas County Government Month. The Kansas Association of Counties (KAC) celebrated Friday at the Capitol.
“Counties really do provide a lot of the backbone of our services,” Senator Marci Francisco said. “It’s our connection through our county and our county government to where we are in the state.”
The purpose is to recognize the impact of local government. Some current legislators who used to work at the county level spoke today in support.
“We don’t have enough civic exposure these days,” Representative Vic Miller said. “I think it’s good for the public, particularly our young people to learn how they are touched by the various levels of the government.”
The event also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the floor map at the front entrance of the Statehouse.
