30 March 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Roughly 1,300 Wichita elementary school students were on hand at Eck Stadium for Education Day to watch the Shockers trounce Rice in game two of the weekend series, 10-3.

Wichita State head coach Brian Green shuffled his weekend pitching rotation and had his ace, Caden Favors, on the mound Friday.

It was a masterclass for Favors, who pitched seven innings and only allowed two hits and two runs in the game, striking out eight batters and walking none.

The Shockers used the third and seventh innings to do most of their damage offensively. They plated four in the third inning and three in the seventh while adding a Dayvin Johnson solo home run in the eighth as insurance to get the win.

Shockers designated hitter Jaden Gustafson was perfect on the day hitting 4-for-4 with three RBI. As a team Wichita State totaled 12 hits and only struck out five times.

Favors was awarded the win and two strong innings from Caleb Anderson closed out the game for the Shockers.

The win moves Wichita State to 17-9 on the year and 4-1 in AAC play. Up next, the Shockers will go for the sweep on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon and will stream on ESPN+.
