SHAWNEE CO. (KSNT) – This week, election offices across the Sunflower State are certifying the results of the Presidential Preference Primary (PPP).
Shawnee County held its canvass today. County commissioners certified the results and determined more than 70 additional ballots would be counted. These are the votes from people who went to the wrong polling place, had the wrong address or had a discrepancy with their vote.
“It’s required by law and that’s really the final adjudication for any question marks,” said Andrew Howell, Shawnee County Election Commissioner. “And then you get your final counts and then it becomes official.”
The statewide results will be sent to the state political parties. The parties will use the information to determine who Kansas will support at the national conventions this summer.

This was the third time Kansas has held a PPP in the state’s history. Normally, the vote is handled within each party.
The vote came at a time when President Biden and former President Trump were the clear frontrunners in the race. That didn’t stop more than 136,000 voters from participating in the election.
