TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee County District Attorney has officially charged one man for animal cruelty after numerous animals were found at a local home in poor condition.
After two people were arrested for alleged counts of animal cruelty, Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay has charged Charles Cornelius Solomon, 28, with 26 counts of cruelty of animals and failing to provide care.
On Jan. 30, 2023, Topeka Police had a search warrant to seize animals that were at a home in the 1400 block of Southwest Fillmore Street, according to a press release from a spokeswoman with the Office of the Shawnee County District Attorney.
TPD and the Humane Society of the United States discovered more than 10 dead animals in a freezer in the house. Dogs, cats, a guinea pig, a rat, a wild bird and a hawk were inside the home along with chicken remains in a bathtub near the back of the property.
Solomon’s bond is set for $10,000, and his next court appearance is set for April 4 at 1:30 p.m. TPD is investigating these matters.
According to the press release, if anyone has information relating to these crimes, report the information to law enforcement immediately.
