TOPEKA (KSNT) – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran was in Topeka on Friday meeting with active-duty military members and veterans about the state of Kansas’ armed forces.

Moran and high ranking military officials gathered at the Topeka Country Club to meet with the community. They discussed issues that service men and women face, as well as what changes could benefit the military in the state and country.

Senator Moran is only in the capital city for the weekend, but he says he always appreciates being back with his home community to help them move forward.

“I’m always pleased to be in Kansas,” Moran said. “I prefer Kansas to Washington D.C. We want to work to help Kansas businesses grow and do more defense work for the well-being of them and their employees, but also for the purposes of making sure our country’s safe and secure.”

27 News also asked Moran on Congress’ passing of the federal stopgap bill. He says avoiding the shutdown is a good thing. President Joe Biden signed the bill on Friday, which funds the government through early March. Moran says he hopes to get back to work on long-term funding solutions when he returns to the nation’s capital on Monday.
