Sedgwick County Zoo welcomes Tartan, an 8-month-old Clydesdale horse

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Sedgwick County Zoo announced on Facebook Wednesday that they have welcomed Tartan, an 8-month-old Clydesdale horse, to the Children’s Farm barn.

He was born at Cowskin Creek Clydesdales in Goddard.

“While he’s a bit of a clutz right now, he will grow to be around 18 hands tall and weigh around 2,000 lbs.,” said the SCZ.

The Zoo says the Clydesdale is listed as “Threatened” on The Livestock Conservancy Conservation Priority List, and unfortunately, their global population is estimated at fewer than 5,000 horses, according to The Livestock Conservancy.

The Zoo invites everyone to come out to welcome Tartan. They are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day unless otherwise noted.
