SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — January is Cervical Health Month. The Sedgwick County Health Department’s Early Detection Works Program offers free or low-cost cervical and breast cancer screening exams.
“Testing and early detection are key to catching cervical cancer when it can be effectively treated,” said the Sedgwick County Government.
The SCHD says all women, especially those who are sexually active, should have a well woman exam each year. A well woman exam consists of an overall physical exam, breast exams starting at age 20, and a Pap smear every three years starting at age 21. A Pap smear detects precancerous, abnormal changes in the cervix.
To see if you are eligible for a free or low-cost cervical and breast cancer screening exam, you can call the Kansas Department of Health and Environment at 877-277-1368 or visit kdhe.ks.gov.
