Sedgwick County fire talks about April burn ban

18 March 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County Fire Marshal Brad Crisp joined KSN News on Monday to discuss April’s upcoming burn ban.

Open burn permits will not be issued during April, and no current permit holders will be allowed to conduct open burns after March 31. Open burns can resume after May 1.

“Farmers and ranchers across our regions are burning off their grasslands, and sometimes it has a negative impact on air quality,” Crisp said. “Burning those fields off actually improves the quality of grass that the cattle graze on.”

Grills, smokers, and fire pits are allowed during the month. Brush and tree limbs are not allowed to be burned.

Contact your local fire department if you have questions about what can and can’t be burned.
