TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka firefighters responded to an early morning house fire on Friday that caused thousands of dollars in damage.
The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) announced in a press release that fire crews were called a little before 1 a.m. on March 8 to the 4300 block of SE Massachusetts Court for a report of a house on fire. At the scene, firefighters found a single-story home with smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure.
TFD spokeswoman Rosie Nichols said a search of the building found no one was home. The fire was extinguished after being contained to the home.
An investigation into the cause of the fire determined it was accidental. Total estimated losses associated with the fire sit at $80,000. No working smoke detectors were inside the home.
