SE Topeka fire damages two homes on Saturday

TOPEKA (KSNT) – One person was injured in a house fire over the weekend in southeast Topeka.

City of Topeka spokeswoman Rosie Nichols said in a press release that the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) were called on Saturday, March 16 to the 3400 block of SE Indiana Avenue in response to a fire at a one-story home. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home which also damaged another nearby home.

Everyone inside the home was able to evacuate before the TFD arrived with one being treated for minor injuries by first responders. An investigation into the incident was unable to find a source for the fire.

Nichols says an estimated $95,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire with $85,000 attributed to structural damage and $10,000 of damage to a nearby home. No smoke detectors were located in the home where the fire started.
