Salina police are working to identify victim of fiery crash

SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) — Late Sunday night, a car hit a bridge pillar and burst into flames in Salina. Now, police are trying to identify the person who died in the crash.

The Salina Police Department and Salina firefighters responded to the crash around 11 p.m. A Toyota car was engulfed in flames under Interstate 135 near the intersection of Cloud and Centennial.

Police say only one person was in the vehicle. The person’s body is being taken to Kansas City for an autopsy and to help with identification.

Investigators say the damage to the vehicle is so bad they cannot read the vehicle’s identification number.
