ROSSVILLE (KSNT) – Students, staff, and family embraced the cold the morning of March 18 at Rossville Grade School to dedicate a new playground in honor of former student Makalyn Aubert.
The Aubert family says it’s been a community effort to make the playground happen, but after four years the day has finally come. The two colors of the playground, turquoise and purple, are a celebration of Makalyn as they were her favorites.
With the playground officially open, her classmates have time to enjoy the new space before they finish up their education at the grade school.
“Makalyn passed away in 2020 from a congenital heart defect,” Makalyn’s Mom Melissa Aubert said. “She was in 1st grade when she passed away and her class is now in 5th grade, so the 5th graders get to play on the equipment first. They were a lot of her friends.”
Having a new space for Rossville students to enjoy during recess, and remember Makalyn for years to come means quite a lot to the Aubert family.
