Road work to shut down north Topeka intersection for 2 months

TOPEKA (KSNT) – In preparation for the Polk-Quincy Project, a road in downtown Topeka is set to be closed for eight months.
Starting on Wednesday, March 13, part of First Street will be closed west of SW Topeka Boulevard for work related to the ongoing Polk-Quincy Viaduct project. A detour will be provided with westbound traffic taking SW Topeka Boulevard south to SW Fourth Street west to SW Clay Street and then north back to 1st Street.
Eastbound traffic will travel south on SW Clay Street then east on SW Fifth Street before heading north on SW Topeka Boulevard back to First Street.
Access to I-70 off First Street will remain open during the project detour. The work is expected to be completed by the middle of November 2024.
