Red Flag warnings in much of NE Kansas

29 February 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A large portion of northeast Kansas is currently under critical fire weather conditions.

At 2:08 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service of Topeka announced a red flag warning would be in effect from 10 a.m. this morning until 8 p.m. tonight.

The red flag warning is in effect due to strong winds, low humidity and dry fuel for fires. Wind is expected to be sustained at 15-25 mph from the southwest with gusts reaching 40 mph. The strongest winds are expected in north central Kansas.

Republic, Washington, Marshall, Nemaha, Brown, Cloud, Clay, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Jefferson, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Douglas, Lyon, Osage, Franklin, Coffey and Anderson counties will be under the red flag warning.
