Elementary teacher dead in multiple-vehicle crash southwest of Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – On Friday, the Topeka Fire Department announced that a local recycling center would be closed following a fire that started on Saturday.
The TFD responded to reports of heavy smoke at the Forestry’s Garick Recycling Center on April 6. Upon arrival, firefighters found multiple large piles of mulch on fire and heavy smoke.
No structures or injuries were reported from the fire.
On April 7, crews were able to extinguish the fires at the recycling center. As a precautionary measure, the recycling center was closed until April 8. On Friday, April 12, the TFD announced the recycling center would be closed until Wednesday, April 17.
