Record warmth likely today before a strong cold front moves through tomorrow

26 February 2024

Record warm temperatures will be likely this afternoon as highs make it up into the upper 70s and lower 80s across the area. We’ll also see winds gusting to around 20 mph with low humidity and dry grasses, of course. So fire danger is elevated over the next couple of days.

A strong cold front races in through the daytime tomorrow, so highs will likely happen in the first half of the day. Behind the front winds could gust out of the north around 40-45mph bringing in much colder temperatures. We could also see a brief period of rain changing to snow later tomorrow evening tapering off well before sunrise Wednesday. While accumulation doesn’t appear too likely because of how warm our ground is, there may be a dusting to around an inch on grassy or elevated surfaces.

We’ll be much colder for midweek with temperatures waking up Wednesday in the teens and low 20s. Highs try to rebound into the upper 30s and low 40s for Wednesday afternoon. The good news with this taste of winter is that it’s really brief. By Thursday, we’re already back in the middle 50s.

Winds remain gusty through most of this week, though, but that will ultimately help with our quick warm-up after the cold front. By the weekend, highs will be back up in the middle 70s, and we may even have a chance for thunderstorms by late Sunday afternoon and evening!
