Prescribed burning underway in Phillips County

KIRWIN, Kan. (KSNW) — Residents of southwest Phillips County may see smoke in the air this weekend.

Prescribed burning is being conducted Friday and Saturday at the Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge. Firefighters will be conducting controlled burns starting at the north shore boat ramp, west to the wildlife headquarters, and west of the Solomon Bend parking lot.


Counties with the worst droughts in Kansas

On Saturday, the burns will shift to the south shore of the North Fork of the Solomon River. Drivers in the area may see smoke or blowing smoke during the burns and are urged to use caution if traveling in the area.
