KHP investigates Garden City chase and crash that left several injured

CHASE COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A police pursuit in Kansas Tuesday morning ended with two people in custody.
According to the Chase County Sheriff’s Office, just after 9 a.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on U.S. Highway 50 at mile marker 327.
During the stop, it was discovered that the passenger had a warrant through Harvey County and was considered to be possibly armed and dangerous.
The driver then left the scene, fleeing from the deputy. The pursuit began eastbound on U.S. Highway 50 toward Emporia.
The CCSO says the driver drove around stop sticks that were deployed just outside of Emporia and headed into the city limits.
The vehicle came to a stop at Lakeview Street and East 9th Avenue. Both suspects then fled on foot.
“With the assistance of the Kansas Highway Patrol and Coffey County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units, deputies were able to apprehend the suspects who were hiding in the garage of a house in the 900 block of Lakeview,” said the CCSO.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Emporia Police Department, Emporia State University Police, and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the pursuit.
The driver was identified as a 25-year-old man from Wichita. The passenger was identified as a 33-year-old woman also from Wichita.
The CCSO says the man is facing charges for speeding, felony flee and elude, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, criminal trespass, and many other traffic charges. The woman is facing charges of flee and elude, interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, criminal trespass as well as the warrant through Harvey County.
