Pickleball complex focus of city meeting on Tuesday

27 March 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Plans for a pickleball complex in south Wichita are on hold for now.

Last month, the city rejected a bid for the construction of the project at South Lakes Park, 5300 S. Meridian.

At Tuesday’s Wichita City Council workshop, a discussion of pickleball was the focus of a large part of the three-hour meeting, along with the city budget.

Already, the city has set aside more than $6 million for the project was approved back in April 2023. The council already approved $300,000 for design services in October 2021.

Some council members are concerned about the complex’s cost and a possible budget shortfall the city faces.
