FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Nestlé USA is recalling more than 440,000 Starbucks-branded mug gift sets due to burn and laceration hazards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall is for four gift sets that contain a ceramic metallic-coated mug with Starbucks branding. The 11-ounce and 16-ounce mugs were sold during the 2023 holiday season in the following gift sets:

The CPSC says the sets were sold online and in-store at Walmart, Target, and Nexcom (military retail outlets) nationwide from November 2023 to January 2024 for $10 to $20.

If the mug is microwaved or filled with hot liquid, it can overheat or break, possibly resulting in burns or lacerations, CPSC says.

Twelve incidents of breaking or overheating mugs have been reported, with 10 resulting in injuries. Nine of those have been severe burns or blisters on fingers and hands and one cut on a finger.

CPSC says consumers should immediately stop using the affected mugs and either return them to where they were purchased or contact Nestlé USA for a refund.
