No burning in Geary or Riley County

GEARY COUNTY (KSNT) – On Monday, Geary County Emergency Management (GCEM) issued a fire danger warning on social media.

According to GCEM, the Rangeland Fire Danger Index will be in the very high category all day. An elevated risk of fire is expected for much of the area on Tuesday, Feb. 27 and Thursday, Feb. 29.

On Tuesday, the area will see possible wind gusts up to 45 mph with sustained winds near 30 mph, according to GCEM.

The Riley County Fire District #1 shared the GCEM Facebook post and reiterated that there is to be no outdoor burning in Riley County today. The Geary county Sheriff’s Office shared the post as well, saying “Nope. Don’t do it. Be cautious.”
