Mostly clear tonight, increasing clouds for the eclipse

What We’re Tracking

Winds calm down tomorrow

Increasing clouds for eclipse day

Warm next weekend

Tonight, we see a clear sky and temperatures will drop down into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Winds finally start to taper off. We’ll have a breeze out of the west around 5 to 10 mph after the midnight hour.

Tomorrow is the day for the total solar eclipse. In Topeka, we see 89% totality that peaks at 1:53 in the afternoon. We start off with a mostly clear sky before cloud cover moves in from the south by the afternoon. Around eclipse time we see a partly cloudy sky so some folks may have their view hindered, especially in our southern counties.

We settle into a quiet pattern this week. Temperatures stay mild in the upper 60s and lower 70s. The only rain chance we see on the 7 day is a very slim chance on Wednesday afternoon. Early trends for next weekend look extremely warm with temperatures in the middle 80s.
