LOUISBURG, Kan. (WDAF) — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after several malnourished and deceased animals were found on a property last week.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, deputies responded for a welfare check on multiple canines on a property in the 25900 block of Rockville Road.

Through the initial investigation, the sheriff’s office said a search warrant was obtained, and 10 Great Danes were found dead, while nine Great Danes and one Shephard-mix were found alive and in a condition that required immediate medication attention.

The sheriff’s office said there was no one at the property at the time of the investigation.

Necropsy is pending on the deceased animals to determine a cause of death, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said the other 10 canines are either at a local veterinary or sanctuary being cared for while the investigation continues.

Detectives believe this property is part of a larger operation that spans across Kansas and the United States and are working with investigators in other jurisdictions and believe at least 100 other canines are in similar conditions based on other investigations.

No charges have been filed at this time, but detectives say they have identified a possible suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information that may help with the investigation is asked to call (913) 294-3232 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-8477.
