Manhattan Fake Patty’s Day arrests hit five-year high

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Police say some people in Manhattan got a little too rowdy during Fake Patty’s Day this year in a new citation and arrest report released Friday.

The Riley County Police Department (RCPD) announced the full crime statistics for their efforts on Fake Patty’s Day in 2024. The reporting period includes citations and arrests made between 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1 and 6 a.m. on Sunday, March 3. While this report includes crime numbers going back to 2017, the RCPD notes that the COVID pandemic had a big impact on the 2020 and 2021 years.

In terms of calls for service made, the RCPD received 533 in 2024, the highest amount seen since 2018 when 607 calls were made. These include both officer-initiated and citizen-made calls for service. The top five list of most common calls for service in 2024 include:

Alcohol: open container – 111

Traffic stop – 53

Parking problem – 27

Alcohol: minor in possession or minor in consumption – 22

Welfare check – 16

Aggieville in Manhattan was a major hot sport for calls for service from locals this year along with some neighboring areas as seen in the map below:

A total of 260 citations were issued in 2024, falling below the five-year average. The top citation was for the possession of an open container in public at 107 recorded offenses, according to the RCPD.

Rising above the five-year average was the number of arrests at 57 total for the reporting period. Compared to last year’s 31 reported arrests, this was a more than 80% increase. More statistics on the reasons for arrests this year can be found below:

Interference/obstruction – 24

Disorderly conduct – 14

DUI-alcohol or drugs – 12

Alcohol: minor in possession or minor in consumption – 7

Drug possession – 6
