Man charged with murder in south Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — One of the two suspects arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of Candace Amack in south Wichita was charged in court on Wednesday.

Jose Silvano Velazquez-Carrillo was charged with one count of first-degree murder; intentional and premeditated by a judge.

The shooting happened on Feb. 15 in the area of 2600 E. Wilma St. Amack was found in the 1400 block of S. George Washington Blvd. outside her home with gunshot wounds.

Amack was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wichita police said they were able to identify a suspect vehicle leaving the area using Flock camera technology and found it at a home in the 1300 block of N. Jackson. The Kansas Highway Patrol air section assisted as well.

Police identified two suspects, Velazquez-Carrillo and a 34-year-old man. Both were booked on suspicion of first-degree murder. The department said no additional suspects are being sought.

Velazquez-Carrillo is next due in court on March 6. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
