Man charged in fatal Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man has been charged for the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Ladonte Ostrander in Wichita earlier this month.

According to court documents, 37-year-old Yancy Hermosillo has been charged with one count of murder in the second degree; unintentional but reckless.

Hermosillo is being held on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 5.


Authorities identify man killed in crash near Garden Plain

According to the Wichita Police Department, they received a call at 5:12 a.m. on Jan. 16 for check shots in the 1000 block of S. Market. Upon arrival, officers searched the area but found nothing.

Ten minutes later, at 5:22 a.m., the WPD said they received another call for something unknown in the 900 block of S. Market St. Upon arrival, officers found a man, now identified as Ostrander, with a gunshot wound to his lower extremities. He was taken in critical condition to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead 21 minutes later at 6 a.m.
