Kansas soldier killed in action in D-Day landings returns home
29 March 2024
TOPEKA (KSNT) – March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. A local group in the Capital City honored those that didn’t make it home from the war in a big way.
The Topeka Vietnam Veterans of America gathered in Garfield Park early Friday morning to read all the names of the Kansas military service members killed in action during that war. It’s a way to honor heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
For committee members, remembering the fallen nearly five decades following the end of the war is one of the best ways to honor their legacy.
“We just want to make sure that they’re not forgotten,” Topeka Vietnam Veterans of America VP Ronald Zink said. “The more we can bring their name to the forefront, the more we can honor them.”
Some of the vets in the crowd for Friday’s event may look familiar, some have been featured on our weekly segment Veteran Salute.
