WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita’s League 42 received a donation of 100 helmets for its athletes on Monday.
Academy Sports and Outdoors wanted to help after the Jackie Robinson statue was stolen and learned of the league’s need for baseball helmets.
League 42 provides a full uniform for all athletes for a $30 fee. Donations help the nonprofit use funds for other needs.
“It’s just really part of Academy, is giving back to our local communities. And so what League 42 is, they give back to the kids in the community. So it really just made sense to help them out and support them when they needed it,” Brooke Ouzts, regional marketing specialist for Academy Sports and Outdoors, said.
It costs about $200,000 a year for League 42 to operate.
The retailer has donated bats to the organization in the past.
