League 42 holds fundraiser to celebrate Opening Day

29 March 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Major League ballparks across the country are celebrating the start of their seasons, and local nonprofit League 42 also celebrated.

The league, which works to help youth have access to baseball in Wichita, held a fundraiser at Old Chicago with the funds going back to the nonprofit.

Just two months ago, League 42 was rocked with the theft and subsequent destruction of their Jackie Robinson statue. That situation is still fresh on their minds.

“Unfortunately you know, when you see things like this happen, it’s great to see a community and even nationwide support happen with it,” Ryan Ritz, a volunteer, said. “And that’s why I kind of wanted to be a part of this, and lend whatever hand that I could. It’s why I offered to bring my smoker up here. And you know, volunteer my time and cook food for everybody.”

League 42’s opening day is on April 15, known around Major League Baseball as April 15.
