KU’s Redwine named Team USA track coach for 2024 Olympics

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – KU track and field coach Stanley Redwine will coach in the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.

Redwine, one of the most decorated track and field coaches in the country, was named the head coach of Team USA’s men’s track and field team, KU Athletics announced Tuesday.

The Jayhawk head coach has led KU to five Big 12 titles and is a five-time Big 12 Coach of the Year recipient.

“I am honored for the opportunity and am excited that I get to be around the other coaches from other schools and just to help Team USA get better,” Redwine said in a KU Athletics press release. “Being around those athletes, there’s not a lot that they really need from me, but I will get more out of it than they will. Just to serve them is a great opportunity.”

Redwine is no stranger to coaching on the sport’s biggest stages, most recently serving as the head coach for Team USA at the 2022 IAAF World Outdoor Championship. He was also the assistant coach for Team USA in both the 2015 Pan-American games and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

KU relays meet director Tim Weaver earned the 2024 Team USA event manager position and will make the trip to Paris with Redwine. Weaver also served as manager for the 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic teams.

Redwine coached Weaver at the University of Tulsa, where he was the head coach prior to Kansas.

“The entire Kansas Athletics family is so incredibly proud of Stanley for this well-deserved honor,” KU athletics director Travis Goff said in a KU Athletics press release. “Stanley is an elite teacher, leader and communicator, and the success he has achieved throughout the entirety of his career reflects those traits. We have no doubt he will represent Kansas Athletics in the first-class manner he always does while he is leading Team USA in Paris.”

The 2024 Olympic games take place July 26 to Aug. 11.
