KU postpones one of largest fundraisers after shooting

15 February 2024

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – One of the largest fundraising events of the year was postponed after the deadly shooting at the Chiefs Super Bowl Parade.

University of Kansas (KU) Chancellor Douglas A. Girod and KU Endowment President Dan Martin penned a press release announcing the postponement of One Day. One KU.

“We are all shocked and saddened by the acts of violence that occurred in Kansas City today,” the press release said. “Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and everyone who has been impacted. We are grateful for our community’s first responders and care providers, including our colleagues at the University of Kansas Health System.”

The event would’ve taken place today, Feb. 15. KU asked its community to support those impacted by the shooting.

“In light of today’s events, we must do what Jayhawks do best — focus on those in need,” the press release said. “As a result, we will postpone tomorrow’s scheduled “One Day. One KU.” day of giving. We know a lot of work has gone into this annual event, and we are grateful to all of you for your contributions. We will reschedule the event for a later date and share details with you soon.”
