LAWRENCE (KSNT) – The Jayhawks are typically the big bad wolf of Big 12 basketball, winning 17 of the last 20 regular season conference titles.
However, on Saturday, members of the the league all over might have smiled as Kansas stomped Texas on the Longhorns’ way out of the conference. KU beat UT 86-67 in what was likely the last trip to Allen Fieldhouse for Texas for quite some time.
Despite once again being without senior forward Kevin McCullar, Kansas didn’t let the visiting Longhorns get much hopes of a comeback up. KU jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the game. Texas pulled back within one in the middle of the first half but a 12-0 run gave the ‘Hawks control back.
KU led by 20 at halftime and although never pulling away by more than 24 after the break, the home team kept UT at arms-length the rest of the way.
Kansas improves to 21-6 overall and 9-5 in Big 12 play with the win. Texas falls to 6-8 in league play in its final season as a member of the Big 12.
Bill Self’s team has four regular season games remaining, beginning with a home game on Tuesday, Feb. 27 against BYU.
