KU gets revenge, extends Senior Night winning streak

6 March 2024

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – The Jayhawks got even with their in-state rival on Tuesday in Allen Fieldhouse.

KU beat K-State, 90-68, a payback win after the Wildcats won the Sunflower Showdown in Manhattan a month ago. Bill Self evens the series at 2-2 against Jerome Tang, while improving his overall record against K-State to 41-8. Self is now 20-1 at home against K-State.

The Wildcats have not won in Allen Fieldhouse since 2006. KU now leads the all-time series 205-96. The outcome likely eliminates any realistic K-State hopes of an at-large NCAA tournament bid.

The Jayhawk victory also extends its winning streak on senior night to 41 years.

The two-headed-monster of Hunter Dickinson and Kevin McCullar was too much for the ‘Cats to handle in their second-to-last regular season game. The KU duo combined for 34. More surprisingly, Nick Timberlake was red-hot in his final game in Lawrence. Timberlake, who entered the night shooting 35% from the field and 26% from three, went 6-for-7 on Tuesday, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. He scored 18.

Will McNair led K-State with 15 points off the bench.

KU improves to 22-8 overall and 10-7 in league play. K-State falls to 17-13 overall and 7-10 in Big 12 play.

Both teams will close out their regular season on Saturday, March 9. K-State hosts Iowa State, while Kansas visits No. 1 Houston.
