KU basketball adds first transfer commit of 2024 offseason

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – KU men’s basketball is working to avenge a round of 32 exit from the 2024 NCAA tournament.

The Jayhawks received a commitment from Riley Kugel, a a 6-foot-5 transfer guard from the University of Florida. Kugel averaged 9.2 points per game as a sophomore with the Gators in 2023-24. Kugel also contributed with 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for UF.

The transfer guard announced his commitment to Bill Self’s Jayhawks on social media on Sunday.

Originally a native of Orlando, Florida, Kugel picked Kansas over other finalists UConn, Houston and Arizona. He comes to Lawrence with two years of eligibility remaining. He played in 65 games in two seasons in Gainseville, starting 28.

KU is also a finalist for the recruitment of Lawrence native Zeke Mayo, a transfer guard from South Dakota State.
