KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are asking for the public’s help as they continue to investigate a shooting at Crown Center.

Six people were injured in the shooting Wednesday night, which was reported just after 5:30 p.m. in the area of Grand Boulevard and Pershing Road.

Three people were hit by gunfire after a disturbance between two groups. Police later learned three others showed up on their own at local hospitals.

On Thursday, police said all six victims are recovering from their injuries, which are non-life threatening.

The ages of five victims range from late teens to early 20s; the other is in their 50s, according to KCPD.

Responding officers detained multiple people Wednesday night for further investigation. Of those, police took one person into custody for a 24-hour hold, but they have since been released, pending further investigation.

KCPD detectives are in touch with Jackson County prosecutors, according to a department spokesperson, so they can make decisions on potential charges.

Detectives are asking anyone who might have seen anything or who has information to reach out to the Kansas City Police Department as they try to identify anyone involved.

The KCPD spokesperson said they have determined there were two people in the area who were not involved in the altercation but who fired weapons in response to the original gunfire.

One was a Crown Center visitor in the food court, and the other was a Crown Center employee working security. Police said both of them have spoken with detectives and are fully cooperating.

A Crown Center spokesperson noted the shopping center has a no weapons policy, posted at multiple entrances.

Crown Center delayed its opening Thursday, waiting until noon to open instead of its usual 10 a.m. Representatives for the shopping center declined to comment further.
