WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has arrested a man in Franklin County in relation to the death of his newborn son.

A news release from the KBI says on Feb. 14, around 6:30 p.m., agents arrested the man near Kansas Highway 59 and Clark Road north of Richmond on suspicion of first-degree murder and abuse of a child.

On Jan. 14, around 10:40 a.m., deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a medical call in Richmond. They arrived to find an unresponsive infant. Lifesaving measures were attempted, and the baby was transported to Ottawa hospital in critical condition. The baby was then transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

On Jan. 17, the KBI was called to assist in the investigation. The baby, who was 1-month-old, was taken off life support and died on Jan. 28.

The KBI said an investigation led agents and deputies to believe the baby’s father was responsible for the injuries that caused his death.

KSN News does not identify suspects until they are formally charged with a crime.
