30 March 2024

IOLA, Kans. – A southeast Kansas sheriff’s deputy is fired and arrested for alleged child sex crimes.

Agents with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation arrested Michael Tennyson, 24, at the Allen county Sheriff’s Office, where he’s been a sheriff’s deputy since January.

On Friday the Hays Police Department asked the KBI to help find a 15-year-old runaway. The girl had been missing since March 22. Investigators believed the girl was in Iola with Tennyson.

The Allen County Sheriff fired and then arrested Tennyson as soon as his office was made aware of the investigation Friday afternoon.

Authorities say they found the girl at Tennyson’s house and took her into protective custody.

Tennyson will be held in the Bourbon County Jail on charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
