KSN’s Capitol Bureau confirmed with House Republican leadership that Maughan vacated his vice chair position on the committee on Tuesday, March 5.

“He stepped down as vice chair of judiciary but will remain on the committee,” Spokeswoman for Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins Carrie Rahfaldt said. “A new vice chair will be appointed. No other committees have changed.”

Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins also responded to Rep. Maughan’s arrest. He sent the following statement on Tuesday.

“Any time there’s an instance of anyone driving under the influence, it’s concerning and something to be taken seriously,” Hawkins said. “I’m thankful that no one was hurt in the incident and appreciate law enforcement’s efforts to work through this process with Rep. Maughan.”
