LATHAM, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Masonic Foundation and the Latham Masonic Lodge have announced a large donation to Butler County Fire District #6 in Latham.

The department serves the Flint Hills community of Latham and the surrounding area in southwest Butler County. Each year, Latham Masonic Lodge #401 and its 39 members raise money to support the fire department.

“We started this annual benefit eight years ago and have had it every year since,” said Latham Lodge No. 401 Secretary Donald Nelson in a news release. “The fire department is entirely volunteer-run and furnishes fire protection for the town of Latham and the surrounding area. They provide protection for homes and businesses and the ranchers and farmers in the district.”

The Latham Masonic Lodge has partnered with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to donate $15,825 to the department. The funds will help cover the costs of the new fire station building and equipment.

A formal donation announcement will be held at the lodge on March 12.
