TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Kansas Senate voted to adopt SR 1737, the resolution affirming Texas Governor, Greg Abbott’s right to defend the border.
There was some debate among senators about the wording of the resolution. Senate Minority Leader, Dinah Sykes of Lenexa, proposed an amended version. The amendment was rejected, and the resolution was ultimately adopted in its original form.
Senator Mike Thompson, R- Shawnee, said the proposed amendment left the wording of the resolution unclear.
He thinks it’s important to support Texas because the federal government is not doing enough to stop illegal immigration.
“I believe Governor Abbott needs to understand there are other states who are standing with him and that will step up,” Thompson said. “Because the federal government, the 50 states, should be doing it through the federal protection of the border, which is not happening, not coming from the federal government.”
The resolution urges Governor Laura Kelly to take action in support of Governor Abbott.
