KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals and leaders plan to announce the location of the team’s new ballpark location in Jackson County Tuesday afternoon.

Details including renderings, economic data and progress toward a lease and community benefits agreement are expected during the announcement.

Last month, the Jackson County legislature overwhelmingly approved sending an extension of the existing 3/8-cent sales tax that supports the Chiefs and Royals to the April 2 ballot.

The measure would protect the 50-year partnership between Jackson County, the Chiefs and Royals, keeping the teams and the cultural and economic impact they provide in Jackson County.

Last week, the Royals started a campaign committee dedicated to promoting the stadium tax ballot question.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, the team donated $500,000 to its own cause, according to a filing with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

The Royals want to use that revenue to build a new ballpark somewhere in downtown Kansas City. The Chiefs, meanwhile, plan to renovate Arrowhead Stadium.
