KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — The Kansas City Chiefs are strengthening their chances to repeat by keeping most of their coaching staff.
The Chiefs have given extensions to beloved coaches defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and defensive line coach Joe Cullen.
They have now given an extension to special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Dave Toub as well.
The 61-year-old just finished his 11th season with the Chiefs.
Toub came to the Chiefs as strictly the special teams coordinator from 2013-17 and added the assistant head coach title beginning in 2018.
He leads a special teams unit led by Pro Bowl punter Tommy Townsend and record-breaking kicker Harrison Butker.
Toub’s special-teamers are among the most valuable end-of-roster candidates every season, which allows him to have significant roster influence throughout the season.
Butker and Townsend were especially essential this past season, with the Chiefs’ offensive struggles relying on special teams to contribute points wherever they could.
Toub and head coach Andy Reid have years of rapport, including spending three seasons together with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2001-03.
