Kansas City Chiefs players react to Super Bowl parade shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs players have reacted to a shooting that injured multiple people at the Super Bowl parade.

At about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Kansas City police reported a shooting at Union Station not long after players were done giving speeches to celebrate their back-to-back championship.

Things quickly turned grim as the rally was winding down when there were reports of shots fired and multiple people transported to hospitals around Kansas City. The police have confirmed that one person is dead.

Players quickly took to social media to give their condolences and prayers to those affected. Linebacker Drue Tranquil was the first to post on X saying:

“Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”

Patrick Mahomes retweeted Tranquil and then gave his prayers to the city.

The Chiefs organization also released this statement on Wednesday:

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.”

“We are in close communication with the Mayor’s office as well as the Kansas City Police Department. At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for. We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist.”
