K-State women’s basketball gets four-seed in NCAA tournament, hosting first weekend

18 March 2024

MANHATTAN, Kan. (KSNT) – K-State women’s basketball is back in the dance after missing the NCAA tournament in 2022-23.

The Wildcats received a four-seed in the 2024 NCAA tournament and will play Portland. With a top-16 seed, K-State earns a spot as a host for the tournament’s first weekend.

It’s the fifth time earning an NCAA bid in the last nine seasons for Jeff Mittie’s Wildcats. After earning a national ranking as high as No. 2 in the AP poll this season, an injury to All-American Ayoka Lee sidetracked the Wildcats for much of conference play.

K-State finished the regular season 24-6, including 13-5 in conference play, before going 1-1 in the Big 12 tournament.

The region could set up a fun rubber match between K-State and Iowa. The Hawkeyes are the one-seed in K-State’s region. Kansas State beat Caitlin Clark and Iowa on Nov. 16, before the Hawkeyes got revenge ten days later.

LSU is the three-seed in K-State’s region, while UCLA is the two-seed.
