WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas State women are without Ayoka Lee for the next few weeks due to an injury, but that didn’t stop them from taking down in-state foe Kansas on Saturday.

The Wildcats defeated the Jayhawks at Bramlage Coliseum, 69-58.

K-State started hot, leading 18-8 at the end of the first quarter. They held steady in the second and went into the break ahead 32-26.

The Jayhawks would try to tighten the lead in the third quarter, but the Wildcats weren’t having any of it en route to the win.

Three Wildcats scored in double figures, with Serena Sundell and Zyanna Walker scoring 15 a piece and Brylee Glenn adding 13 of her own.

As a team, Kansas State shot 40% from the field and 31.8% from three. They added 18 points from the charity stripe and forced 18 turnovers on the Jayhawks while committing just 11 of their own.

KU was led in scoring by Zakiyah Franklin who led all scorers in the game with 18. Holly Kersgeiter and S’Mya Nichols added 12 a piece.

The three-point line was unforgiving to the Jayhawks, as they shot just 13.3% from beyond the arc in the game. Overall, KU shot 41.5%.

The win puts K-State at a Division I-leading 18-1. The Jayhawks fall to 9-9 on the season.

Up next, Kansas State will hit the road to take on No. 12 Baylor on Monday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The Jayhawks will head home and host Iowa State on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
